Things To Know: Human Characters of Color Pt. 2
This is a follow-up to the blog which you can read here: Things To Know: Creating Human Characters of Color. The previous blog covered the numerous issues surrounding inclusion and diversity that are extremely important to be cognizant of (please read it if you have not yet done so). This blog will cover the nuts and bolts of depictions of non-white humans! Warning: this journal contains a LOT of images.
This is an important topic because there are very, very few resources that will actually teach you about the differences that occur in the figure across race. All figure drawing measurements are based on the ideal European body type. This wa

On this journal I'd like to clarify a few things about travels and the truth with it.
So, let's start from very basic questions or comments from people which I get very often on dA: you are so lucky to be able to afford traveling!, I so wish I were as lucky as you being able to travel or How you can afford? You must have decent finances and the time!
Didn't you happen to think like that? If you did, so that is just a stereotype.
On almost every question or their comment where I explain what it is really and how it's working - it is a big opposite side of mirror what they think. After hearing th

Ideas for improvement for novice artists and more!
It's like any other activity that you've ever heard of: it's more fun to play the game than to practice hitting, it's more fun to run through a city than through a track. My point? As an artist, especially young novices, will find it hard to JUST draw human arms over and over or JUST draw cat heads and tails without any incentive to! Honestly, unless you really, really, REALLY enjoy drawing and sketching and scribbling (and there are a few people I know who do), you aren't going to want to draw random parts of whatever you want to draw!
"So get to the point, already! What are we to do about this?"
I have here a small list of ideas on what t
Challenging Yourself to Become a Better Artist by Rahll, journal
Challenging Yourself to Become a Better Artist
Like others here, I get asked a lot of questions about my art, my process, techniques, and my inspiration. One of the questions I get asked that makes me both smile and laugh is, "How did you get so good?" Half the time it's a rhetorical question, and the other half is people genuinely wanting to know how to get better at art.
The answer is deceptively simple: I challenge myself and maintain a positive attitude.
RISE TO THE CHALLENGE
Now you might say, "Well, everything I do is a challenge, I'm not that good yet." But that's not what I mean. Of course getting better at art is challenging, and even when you're what others might consider a m
'I want to be a better artist.' by Endling, journal
'I want to be a better artist.'
This is a sentiment I hear often on dA. It's usually followed by a question regarding how one should go ABOUT becoming a better artist.
I've no doubt made journals like this in the past, but here's another one. This page was in dire need of an update, either way. : )
I could probably talk your ear off for a mile and a half about why I should be the last person you ask for creativity-boosting advice. Aaaand I have my reasons for this, but that's not really what anyone who writes me wants to hear, I think. It's just a fair warning. I'm not an accredited teacher, I was far from the most capable person at my college, I've made a metric crap
The most important thing about creating art is to create. If you want to be at ease with creativity, you have to immerse yourself in it, and do a little bit every day. Even if that little bit is only to take five minutes while waiting for the bus to come and do a gesture drawing of a man reading his book across the street from you. Or to take the moment to scribble down a thumbnail rough sketch of a concept that occurs to you. Do a little bit each day. Train your brain to think visually.
It can be difficult at first, accustoming yourself to make this small bit of time, because you’ll think:
“I don’t have enough time for it
Ahh, the closer comes to my Birthday, the more I feel nervous! =P
I don't plan anything crazy on my birthday. I'll just keep it modest, simple, without any expectations and mostly I'll focus on myself- on what I really want and set up my goals. Then I'll focus more on apartment hunting...
And maybe have a beer with Arkelion and Caroline
Lately I've had quite inspiring discussion with inspiring people about how today we live with conviction about our dreams, especially the ones from childhood are stupid and how our dreamt goals are lower in the hierarchy where usually the top things as main focus in mainstream lifestyle are i.e. normal jo
